BLAIRSVILLE – Inside dominance by Sophomore Anna Lowe and Emma Brown, combined with a consistent scoring attack led by Kaylee Sticker positioned the Dawson County Lady Tigers to advance to the program’s fifth consecutive region title game. Dawson broke open the semi-final round against East Hall in the fourth quarter to win 58-42.
Dawson has taken region champion championships in the two of the previous four title games and will be looking for their sixth region title under the leadership of Coach Steve Sweat. “What a game,” Sweat said. “I am really proud of this bunch of girls! They have worked really hard for this.”
Lowe was unstoppable on the inside racking up a career high 17 points combined with seven blocks. Brown was key both on the boards and a general defensive presence all night as she added 12 points. Sticker seems to always get key points for Dawson and in this game, she racked up 23 as the Lady Tigers earn a home game in round one of the Class AAA playoffs next weekend.
Dawson took early momentum behind Lowe in the first quarter, but the Lady Vikings rallied to take a 15-12 first quarter lead. Dawson battled back and the teams remained tied 23-23 at the half and 37-37 entering the fourth quarter. East Hall bounded ahead taking a 4-point lead early in the final quarter, but the Lady Tigers would rally to outscore the Lady Vikings 21-1 to close the game.
Dawson’s defense was one of the key’s as they contained East Hall’s top scorers all night.
Dawson takes on the #2 seed Greater Atlanta Christian for the title on Saturday, 6PM at Union County High. The game will also be live on NGSL.
