Connor Bearden spins in for the Tiger first touchdown as Dawson built a 17-0 lead.

DAWSONVILLE – It was the final tune up for the Dawson County Tigers the August 25th season opener as Region 7-AAA appeared to pick up where they left off in the 2016 regular season. Dawson built a 17-0 halftime lead and coasted to a 24-7 pre-season victory over North Oconee on Friday night.
Coach Maxwell praised his team’s performance in post-game comments, but added “we have a long way to go but heading in the right direction.”

Senior quarterback Coey Watson directed Dawson down the field to score on their opening drive with a touchdown run by Connor Bearden. The drive featured a series of short passes as Watson connected with Ryan Glass and Ethan Cameron, push strong runs by SeVaughn Clark. After Peyton Allen’s PAT, Dawson held a 7-0 lead that they would not relinquish.
Clark highlighted the Tigers second drive that, once again marched down the field and end with his short touchdown run in the first quarter. 14-0 Dawson.
Allen pushed the score to 17-0 with a 32 yard field goal in the second quarter to push the Tigers up to the comfortable halftime lead.
The Tiger defense remained tough all night, keeping North off the board until a third quarter mid-field turnover set up their only score.
Dawson answered in the fourth as Trey Pruitt directed an efficient drive that set up the culminating score, a 22 yard pass to Wes Hollaway.
